A Statement from Didsbury Mosque Condemning the Attack Outside a Manchester Synagogue

Manchester, UK – The trustees, management, and congregation of Didsbury Mosque are horrified and saddened to learn of the stabbings that took place today outside a synagogue in our city of Manchester.

We condemn this act of violence in the strongest possible terms. An attack on a place of worship and its community is an attack on the very fabric of our shared society. There is no justification for violence, regardless of people’s political differences and grievances.

Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and the Jewish community of Manchester. We stand in solidarity as communities in Manchester. We pray for the recovery of all individuals who have been harmed.

In Islam, the sanctity of life is absolute, and protecting places of worship is a sacred duty. The Quran is clear: “Whoever kills an innocent soul, it is as if he has killed all of mankind” (5:32). An attack on a synagogue is a desecration of a house of God and against the teachings of our faith.

We call upon all communities to reject the poison of hate and division. Now, more than ever, we must come together as neighbours—Muslims, Jews, Christians, and all people of goodwill—to support one another and to reaffirm our collective commitment to peace, mutual respect, and safety for all, in Manchester and beyond.
