Nikah (Islamic Marriage)

In Islam, marriage or Nikah is viewed as an essential and sacred union between a Man and a Woman that fulfils half of one’s religious obligations. In Quran, a very well-known passage stated as follows:

“And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed, in that are signs for a people who give thought” (Surah Al-Rum, Verse 21)

Marriage in Islam is often referred to in a poetic manner describing the love and mutual rights that exist between men and women. Islam puts a strong emphasis on mutual love and respect between a husband and wife. Men are also specifically commanded to treat their wives with kindness and respect. The Prophet Muhammad is reported to have said: “The most perfect in faith amongst believers is he who is best in manners and kindest to his wife”.
